Kisan Mazdoor Morcha announces statewide protest in Punjab over farmers’ demands

The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha has announced a one-day statewide protest outside Deputy Commissioners’ offices in all 22 districts of Punjab on August 31, 2026. The organisation said the mobilisation would raise demands concerning farmers, agricultural labourers, youth, land, water and employment.

Among its key demands is the procurement of crops at remunerative prices above the minimum support price (MSP). The organisation is also seeking compensation and government jobs for the families of farmers and labourers who died by suicide because of debt.

The protest will also call for a long-term scientific policy to address recurring floods, the depletion of the water table and increasing air and water pollution. These issues have been placed alongside demands relating to Punjab’s agriculture, rural economy and employment.

Farm leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said the protest represented a wider struggle to protect the state’s water, land, agriculture, employment, rural economy and future. The organisation has appealed to farmers, labourers, youth and women to participate in large numbers.

The Morcha said the issues being raised concerned the future of Punjab’s agriculture and rural economy. The protest is scheduled to take place at the offices of Deputy Commissioners across the state on August 31.
