Haryana private hospitals to suspend Ayushman Bharat services for 24 hours

Private hospitals in Haryana will suspend services under the Ayushman Bharat scheme for 24 hours on September 1, 2026, citing pending claims and prolonged delays in payments. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) Haryana has flagged nearly Rs 1,200 crore in unpaid claims.

During the protest, hospitals will continue to admit emergency cases. They will not, however, take new routine patients under the scheme, according to the details of the proposed suspension.

The action is aimed at pressing for the settlement of claims pending under Ayushman Bharat. The hospitals’ decision comes amid concerns over the payment situation faced by private facilities empanelled under the scheme in Haryana.

The 24-hour suspension is scheduled for September 1. The research details do not specify the number of hospitals participating or the total number of patients who could be affected by the temporary halt in routine admissions.

Empanelled hospitals may take a more extensive step if the payment situation does not substantially improve. They may completely withdraw from the Ayushman Bharat scheme from September 16, according to the information provided.

The proposed withdrawal is conditional and depends on whether the government substantially improves the settlement of pending claims. Until then, the immediate measure remains a one-day suspension of new routine Ayushman Bharat admissions, with emergency treatment continuing.
