Karnataka clears Bengaluru applied-AI centre with Nasscom partnership to push Industry 4.0 adoption
Karnataka has approved a Centre for Applied AI for Tech Solutions (CATS) at Keonics’ HSR Layout facility in Bengaluru, to be set up with Nasscom and backed by multi-source funding. The centre aims to support AI adoption, prototypes, IP creation and start-up collaboration.

The Karnataka government has approved a Centre for Applied AI for Tech Solutions (CATS) to be established at the Keonics facility in HSR Layout, Bengaluru. The initiative is positioned as an applied, industry-facing hub aimed at accelerating artificial intelligence adoption and enabling Industry 4.0-style digital transformation for businesses and start-ups.
The project is planned in partnership with Nasscom and is backed by a funding commitment spread over four years. The centre’s stated focus areas include AI, robotics, automation, supply-chain optimisation and digital transformation use-cases, with an emphasis on creating deployable solutions rather than only academic research outcomes.
How impact will be measured
The centre is expected to track performance using indicators such as the number of start-ups incubated, prototypes built, IP filings, partnerships formed and workforce skills created. This approach signals an attempt to link public funding to measurable outputs like products, patents and deployments.
For Karnataka, which hosts a major share of India’s software and start-up ecosystem, a dedicated applied-AI platform could help connect government, academia and industry, and shorten the cycle from idea to pilot to market. The effectiveness will depend on how quickly the centre can attract credible industry problem statements and produce outcomes that scale beyond demos.
